Nexstar Broadcasting and New Age Media Enter Into News Agreement in Scranton-Wilkes Barre, PA Print E-mail

ONE HOUR 10PM NEWSCAST SET FOR JANUARY 2010 LAUNCH

 

IRVING, Texas, WILKES BARRE/SCRANTON, and PLAINS, Pennsylvania (November 11, 2009) – Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST) and New Age Media, LLC announced today that WBRE-TV, the Nexstar owned NBC affiliate and WOLF-TV the New Age owned FOX affiliate, both serving the Wilkes Barre/Scranton market, have entered into a multi-year agreement whereby WBRE will produce a 10:00 p.m. newscast for WOLF-TV FOX56, beginning January 1, 2010.  Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

 

 

The new agreement will mark an end to WOLF-TV’s nineteen-year news production relationship with another broadcaster and the start of a new alliance with WBRE-TV, to address the evolving dynamic of local advertiser and viewer demands for new and unique television news programming in the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Pennsylvania market.  The daily FOX branded news will include more news features, local weather and sports as well as celebrity interviews and behind the scenes stories and will be produced by the staff of WBRE-TV.

FOX56, WOLF-TV began as an independent station in 1985 and became a FOX affiliate in 1987.  In 1991, it became the first television station in the country to air a shared newscast when it began airing a 10:00 p.m. newscast.  With the addition of The Office and NFL, MLB, and NASCAR sports programming, WOLF-TV FOX56 will continue to provide viewers with the very best in news, entertainment and sports.
