Nexstar Broadcasting Group purchased KTVX-TV, an ABC affiliate, from Newport Broadcasting on December 3, 2012. ABC4 is the first privately owned commercial television station in the United States, officially signing on the air April 19,1948 at 8pm as KDYL-TV, after first starting television demonstrations at the Paris Department Store in Salt Lake City in 1939 using portions of exhibit used by RCA TV in the 1939 World’s Fair.  ABC4 had many “firsts” over the years. In 1953 and ’54 Dr. Robert Warner of Salt Lake City initiated the nation’s first series of open-circuit continuing medical education clinics via KDYL-TV. In 1999, ABC4 was the first television in Utah to “flip the switch” and broadcast a digital signal. On April 26, 2010, KTVX began broadcasting news in full high definition with an HD quality news set.  ABC4 airs 45 hours of locally produced programming every week; 2,340 hours of locally produced programming annually including the first Utah lifestyle program, Good Things Utah M-F 9-11AM, and Utah’s #1 Political Program, Inside Utah Politics Sunday’s 8AM & 11PM. ABC4Utah news provides Utahns the most accurate weather for ten consecutive years, including 2020.  News programming includes M-F 5-7AM Good Morning Utah, M-F 12N-1PM Midday, M-F 4pm, 5pm, 6pm and 10pm News, w/10pm Encore at 105AM, and weekend news 5pm and 10pm newscasts with Real Sports Live making Sunday News & Sports 10-11pm.  Combined with Nexstar’s KUCW/CW30, ABC4/KTVX, and not counting the special ABC4 News programming and Town Halls ABC4 News produces each year, the two stations air over 3120 hours of locally produced programming annually.

Salt Lake City, UT is in the 27th largest DMA in the United States, with a population of approximately 3,282,115 and 1,173,870 television households, as reported by Nielsen Media.

Cable/ADS penetration in the market is estimated to be 32% Cable, and 43% ADS. Utah has the YOUNGEST median age in the country (30.5 years) with the next youngest states’ median age being Alaska and District of Columbia, with a median age of 33.9 years and the U.S. median age 37.7. Utah also has the highest HH size (3.12) in the U.S. (2.64), with 60.6% of HH headed by married couple’s vs U.S. average of 48.1%. Utah has the number 2 state economy in the U.S., according to a report published in 2018 by WalletHub and has the #2 highest median annual household income. Utah is also one of the fastest-growing tech hubs in the country, with three cities – Provo, Ogden, and Salt Lake City – among the top 15 in the country with the highest concentration of STEM sector employment, and the New Yorker declared the Beehive State “the next Silicon Valley”.
