KRQE was acquired in late 2016 as part of the Media General acquisition. KRQE News 13, digital channel 13.1, is the CBS affiliate for the Albuquerque/Santa Fe market, and Fox New Mexico, digital channel 13.2, is the Fox affiliate. The stations have three transmitters: one in southeast New Mexico near Roswell; one in Durango, Colorado; and the main stick located 10,700 feet above sea level on the Sandia Mountains overlooking Albuquerque. According to Nielsen, KRQE was long a distant third in the market in terms of local viewership from the 1950s through 2000. The station has gone from “worst-to-first” in recent years, recently winning 34 straight sweeps periods among households for late news. The station has built its success by focusing on local sales projects and hyper local news coverage (producing over 50 hours per week of local news) . The station has a Shared Services Agreement with CW affiliate KWBQ and MyNetwork affiliate KASY.
