Founded in 1999 as a WB affiliate, KWBQ is the CW affiliate serving Albuquerque and New Mexico. Also in 1999, KWBQ’s parent company, Acme Communications, purchased the UPN affiliate KASY in a deal that resulted in the formation of Albuquerque's first major television duopoly. In 2006, KWBQ was rebranded as "New Mexico CW" to reflect their new affiliation. The station operates under a Shared Services Agreement with Nexstar owned KRQE.
