Nexstar Broadcasting Group purchased WATN-TV, an ABC affiliate, from Newport Broadcasting Corporation in December of 2012. WATN-TV Local 24 holds a strong commitment to the Mid-South community. Local 24 Cares, serves it viewers through its partnerships with the American Heart Association’s Go Red For Women, American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, US Marine Corps Reserve’s Toys For Tots, the Mid-South Food Bank and many other organizations. Local 24 delivers a variety of programming and news coverage throughout the day. In addition to its five weekday newscasts, locally produced programs include an hour long weekday lifestyle show Local Memphis Live at 9am, a weekly political show Local 24 This Week and various sports specials such as Grizz Nation Live. WATN’s syndicated programming includes The Doctors, Dr. Phil and Harry.

One of the largest celebrations in the “Bluff City” is Memphis in May highlighting the Beale Street Music Festival. Memphis is home to the NBA Grizzlies and the AAA baseball team, the Redbirds. FedEx, International Paper and Auto Zone are Fortune 500 Companies headquartered in Memphis. The Memphis Zoo was rated one of the best in the country by USA Today. Visitors from around the world travel to Memphis to visit Elvis Presley’s home “Graceland” and where he recorded his first song at Sun Studios. The National Civil Rights Museum is located inside the Lorraine Motel where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated.
