Local Broadcasting, Marketing and Sales Executive with More Than 20 Years of Large-Market Leadership Experience to Oversee WDCW-TV, WDVM-TV, DCW50.com, and LocalDVM.com

WASHINGTON, D.C., and IRVING, Texas Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST) announced today that its wholly owned subsidiary, Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc., has named David Bangura as Vice President and General Manager of the company’s broadcast and digital operations in the Washington, D.C. (DMA #7) area.  In this new role, Mr. Bangura will have oversight responsibility for WDCW-TV and DCW50.com, in Washington, D.C., and WDVM-TV and LocalDVM.com, in Hagerstown, MD, serving Central and Western Maryland, the Eastern panhandle of West Virginia and Northern Virginia.  Mr. Bangura will assume his new responsibilities immediately and report to Theresa Underwood, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager, Nexstar Broadcasting.

Mr. Bangura brings more than two decades of local broadcast management, sales, and marketing experience to his new role with Nexstar.  Since 2014, he has served as President and General Manager of WADL-TV and WFDF 910AM in Detroit, MI (DMA #14), where he developed and oversaw long-term strategies and all aspects of the day-to-day operations for both media businesses.  Throughout his career, Mr. Bangura consistently grew revenue and profitability by identifying and cultivating accretive non-traditional revenue through a variety of innovative cross-platform marketing offerings and sponsorship opportunities for local and national advertisers.  Additionally, Mr. Bangura and his marketing team created and deployed unique and exclusive community partnerships with multiple organizations within the greater Detroit metropolitan area.

During his tenure at WADL-TV, Mr. Bangura and his team transformed the television station, improving its programming, promotion, and on-air look, and winning WADL-TV’s first-ever Emmy Award for the locally produced show, “From Glory Days,” recognized in the Talk/Discussion Category.  Mr. Bangura built a sales and marketing team at WADL-TV that consistently grew advertising revenue and market share and generated substantial new local direct business.  Under his leadership, WADL-TV also won the rights to exclusively carry University of Detroit college basketball games.

Prior to leading WADL-TV, Mr. Bangura served as President and General Manager of WMYD-TV (MyNet) in Detroit from 2009 to 2014, building the station’s first news department and launching its first late local weekday newscast.  Under his leadership, WMYD-TV expanded local programming by developing “Detroit Short Films,” an exclusive weekly program designed to showcase the work of local directors and producers.  Mr. Bangura further developed a unique and lasting partnership with the NBA’s Detroit Pistons, with WMYD-TV ultimately obtaining the local broadcast rights to carry Pistons’ games.  Importantly, Mr. Bangura was instrumental in consistently improving WYMD-TV’s revenue, ratings, and profitability during each year of his tenure.  Before joining WMYD-TV, Mr. Bangura held a variety of broadcast sales positions of increasing responsibility at television stations in Detroit.

“David is an exceptional broadcast, sales and marketing executive with an impressive career that spans more than 20 years,” said Ms. Underwood.  “During his years working in Detroit, David delivered exceptional results in content development, community interaction and exclusive high-profile partnerships.  His sales teams at WADL-TV and WMYD-TV regularly exceeded their goals by expanding local program offerings and by implementing innovative television and digital marketing strategies that grew audience reach and community engagement.  He is extremely familiar with how to manage multiple media businesses within a given market, understands the importance of crafting multi-platform solutions for advertisers, and has consistently developed strong partnerships with local community businesses and organizations.  We are confident that David’s large-market broadcasting and marketing expertise is a perfect fit for our Washington, D.C., and Hagerstown, MD, broadcasting and digital operations as we look to expand our service and commitment to the greater D.C. area.  We welcome David into the Nexstar family, and we look forward to working with him.”

“I am thrilled to be assuming leadership of Nexstar’s broadcasting and digital operations in Washington, D.C., and Hagerstown,” said Mr. Bangura.  “The strength of WDCW-TV, WDVM-TV and their digital and social media channels, combined with Nexstar’s commitment to hyper-local content and the unique and customized advertising and marketing solutions we can offer, creates a distinct advantage for the area’s viewers and advertisers.  My years in broadcasting management and sales in Detroit have well-prepared me to take on this new role and I look forward to working with the talented and dedicated staffs in both locations.”

Mr. Bangura has been deeply involved in the Detroit community during his tenure, serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Michigan Association of Broadcasters, and earning recognition from the Michigan Chronicle as one of Detroit’s “Men of Excellence” for his community service.  Mr. Bangura earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance from Wayne State University in Detroit, and has lived all over the world, including Ireland, England, Germany, and Sierra Leone.  Mr. Bangura and his family will be immediately relocating to the Washington, D.C. area.
