Our Foundation

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation's mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business.

Who We Help and Why

Originally established in 1958, the Foundation makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.  Recent grants include:

Project Angel Food: on behalf of KTLA-TV, Nexstar Broadcasting’s television station serving the Los Angeles area, the Foundation contributed $25,000 to the LEAD WITH LOVE: Project Angel Food Emergency Telethon to assist with COVID-19 relief efforts in Los Angeles, CA.

BAG Lady Outreach: collects gently used purses and bags and fills them with personal care items and distributes them in underserved communities throughout Cook, Will, and Kankakee counties in Illinois.

United Way of South Hampton Roads: on behalf of WAVY-TV/WVBT-FOX43, Nexstar Broadcasting’s television stations  serving Virginia Beach and the surrounding Hampton Roads region in Virginia, the Foundation contributed to the Virginia Beach Tragedy Fund,  which assists the families of those killed or wounded during a shooting at the Virginia Beach Municipal Center in May 2019.

One KC: a one-day fundraising effort by Kansas City area broadcasters designed to benefit local residents affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Feeding Illinois: a public service undertaking launched by the Illinois Broadcasters Association to benefit the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Northern Illinois Food Bank, and six other regional agencies serving all of the state’s 102 counties.

El Paso Community Foundation: on behalf of KTSM-TV, Nexstar Broadcasting’s television station serving the greater El Paso area, the Foundation contributed to the El Paso Community Foundation’s Long-Term Care Fund, which was established to benefit victims of a horrific mass shooting on August 3, 2019.

Dallas Education Foundation: on behalf of CW33/KDAF-TV, Nexstar Broadcasting’s television station serving the greater Dallas area, the Foundation contributed to the Dallas Education Fund to benefit the Dallas Independent School District after several Dallas area schools severely damaged by tornadoes that ripped through the area in Fall 2019.

Gary Weitman serves as the Nexstar Media Foundation’s Chief Administrative Officer and is Nexstar Media, Inc.’s EVP & Chief Communications Officer.
