Our Foundation
Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar across the country is core to the company’s mission.
The Nexstar Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The forerunner of the foundation was originally established in 1958; it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
From fighting food insecurity, supporting our vets, and promoting diversity in media and entertainment, our Foundation is proud to help support a variety of organizations throughout the U.S. Some of the contributions given in 2022 went to:
-
-
- The ALS Association (Iowa chapter) assists in the discovery of treatments and a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The organization serves, advocates for, and empowers people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest.
- WVU Medicine Children’s is West Virginia’s largest and most experienced group of pediatric primary care physicians and specialists. By providing the greatest range of pediatric specialty and high-risk maternal care in the region, Children’s is committed to elevating the health and quality of life to all of those who entrust the team with their care.
- Radio & Television News Directors Foundation (RTDNF) was created to help RTDNA members embody and uphold the standards of ethical journalism and promote leadership in the newsroom. RTDNF offers the broadcast and digital news community professional development opportunities, an open forum for the discussion of ethics, assistance with the development of leadership skills, support of First Amendment issues and the exchange of ideas and perspectives from broadcast and digital journalists worldwide. The Foundation also provides scholarships and fellowships to aspiring and early-career broadcast and digital journalists.
- More than 30 Nexstar television stations, led by WDKY-TV in Lexington, KY, participated in a ten-day fundraising drive to assist victims affected by the recent flooding that has devastated eastern Kentucky. The participating stations collectively raised more than $300,000 for the effort, capped off with a $25,000 donation from the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation to the Kentucky Flood Relief Fund of the Christian Appalachian Project (CAP).
