Mary Sandberg Boyle, First Female GM in WGN Radio’s 100 Year History, Named One of Radio Ink Magazine’s “2022 Most Influential Women In Radio”

Chicago, IL May 9, 2022Mary Sandberg Boyle, the first female General Manager in WGN Radio’s 100-year history, has been named one of Radio Ink Magazine‘s “2022 Most Influential Women in Radio.” The announcement appears in the current issue of Radio Ink, which hits newsstands today.

In 2015, Sandberg Boyle joined WGN Radio, the flagship station for the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago White Sox, and Northwestern Wildcats. At 720 WGN, Sandberg Boyle was instrumental in developing and launching a weekday morning business show, “The Opening Bell,” that debuted in 2016. She has held various roles at the station, including Executive Producer and Contributor and Director of News and Operations.  In September 2019, Sandberg Boyle was named acting-General Manager and then promoted to General Manager in December 2019.

In addition, Sandberg Boyle has elevated the station’s newsroom and guided it through the launch of NewsNation, the company’s cable news network, to which the newsroom contributes content.

“Mary’s leadership and management of station operations has led to better results for our listeners, employees and our advertisers,” commented Sean Compton, President of the networks division of Nexstar Media Inc. “We celebrate Mary today on this incredible achievement and look forward to her continued success at the helm of WGN Radio.”

Prior to joining WGN Radio in 2015, she was the executive producer of the Steve Dahl Show and the WBBM 96.3-FM morning show.  She has spent 22 years in broadcast radio production and management—all of it in the Chicago market.

A Chicagoland native and University of Illinois at Chicago graduate, Sandberg Boyle was elected to the Better Business Bureau of Greater Chicago’s Board of Directors in April. She also sits on the Women’s Ambassador board for The First Tee of Greater Chicago and actively volunteers and does outreach with The Ross K. MacNeill Foundation.
