NewsNation Films To Present an Original Documentary Entitled “W: Portrait of a Presidency” on Saturday, September 12 at 9 PM ET
NewsNation Anchor Elizabeth Vargas Narrates One-Hour Multiplatform Special Highlighting the Leadership, Trials, and Legacy of President George W. Bush
Chicago, IL – NewsNation, the country’s fastest-growing cable news network in total day and primetime, today announced it will present “W: Portrait of a Presidency,” an original documentary produced by NewsNation Films, on Saturday, September 12, at 9 p.m. ET. Narrated by veteran journalist and nightly news anchor Elizabeth Vargas, the one-hour multiplatform special will chronicle the presidency of George W. Bush during the dawn of the new millennium, taking viewers inside one of the most consequential periods of modern American history. The special will feature reflections and commentary from a range of experts and journalists, including journalist Michael Isikoff, Russell Riley of The Miller Center, and Tracy Walder, a former staff operations officer in the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center under President Bush. An encore presentation of the program will air on Sunday, September 6 at 1 a.m. ET.
The documentary will air just after the nation marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a defining moment of Mr. Bush’s presidency. “W: Portrait of a Presidency” will examine the Bush administration’s response to the attacks, including the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and the domestic challenges that shaped President Bush’s eight years in office.
The film will also revisit pivotal moments of the early 2000s and President Bush’s efforts to advance his domestic agenda, including the response to Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 and the Great Recession of 2008. Through archival footage and firsthand perspectives, the documentary will explore the decisions, controversies, and circumstances that shaped Bush’s leadership and legacy, featuring archival audio from key advisors and associates in the Bush administration, including former U.S. Secretaries of State Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice.
“W: Portrait of a Presidency” is the latest installment in NewsNation Films’ “Portrait of a Presidency” series following “Reagan: Portrait of a Presidency,” which premiered in June 2024, and “Clinton: Portrait of a Presidency,” which debuted in November 2024.
