Proven Industry Executive Promoted to Newly-Created Position Overseeing Nexstar’s Midwest Broadcast and Digital Media Local Content Initiatives

IRVING, Texas – Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST) announced today that Andy Miller has been appointed Director of Local Content Development, responsible for overseeing the execution and expansion of the Company’s strategic local content and viewer engagement initiatives across its Midwest broadcast and digital media operations.  Since 2005, Mr. Miller has served as the News Director of Nexstar-owned WCIA-TV (CBS), WCIX-TV (MyNetworkTV) and IllinoisHomepage.net, serving the Champaign-Springfield-Decatur, IL market (DMA #85). The appointment is effective immediately and Mr. Miller will report to Blake Russell, Senior Vice President, Station Operations of Nexstar Broadcasting.

Mr. Miller’s promotion reflects Nexstar’s expanding scale and strategy to appoint proven broadcast and digital media leaders to oversee the development of its innovative multi-platform local news and community-focused content on a regional basis, while enhancing its commitment to serve viewers, clients and advertising partners.

In his new role, Mr. Miller will oversee Nexstar Midwest region markets in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri and North Dakota. He will work across the Nexstar organization and with other corporate personnel, General Managers, News Directors and creative services teams to execute the Company’s strategies focused on brand development, local content leadership and excellence in viewer / client experience and service. In addition, he will be responsible for executing and monitoring action plans aimed at achieving corporate and regional business objectives, growing ratings and revenue share and improving audience interaction and engagement with Nexstar’s broadcast and digital / mobile media platforms.

Mr. Miller first joined Nexstar in 2001, when the Company acquired the controlling interest of WCIA-TV from Midwest Television. A native of Champaign, IL, he spent 20 years at WCIA-TV, where he consistently delivered excellence in multi-platform local news programming, production and service. During his tenure, he ascended from his initial role as a Producer to positions of increased responsibility, serving as the Assignment Editor and Assistant News Director before being promoted to News Director in 2005. Mr. Miller built a dominant, top-rated local news operation with a strong local brand and expanded the station’s local news coverage by 76% to nearly 48 hours per week. In addition to successfully launching innovative local programs and digital/mobile products, he built enduring partnerships with local businesses and community organizations. Importantly, WCIA-TV achieved revenue share gains and developed a long-standing reputation as a market leader, with number-one rated local news programming throughout his 11-year leadership according to Rentrak. Reflecting the success of its local content initiatives, WCIA-TV has won numerous accolades and was awarded “Illinois’ Best Newscast” (2011-2014) and “Station of the Year” (2012 and 2014) by the Illinois Broadcasters Association.

Blake Russell commented on the appointment, “Nexstar’s commitment to localism and industry-leading innovation remain key components of our operating and expansion strategies and our long-term success. With the significant growth of our broadcast operations, the addition of a regional Director of Local Content Development was necessary to oversee our expanded portfolio of leading local television stations and to maintain our industry-wide reputation of delivering exceptional local programming and community service.

“Andy brings to his new position a deep understanding of Nexstar and our approach to local news production and programming development, digital and social media integration, content monetization, strategic planning and brand positioning across multiple media platforms. Andy has contributed to our tremendous success in advancing the Company’s Champaign-Springfield-Decatur operations into a long-term market leader in local news, special community-focused content, live-event sports and entertainment programming, as well as digital and mobile service offerings. In addition, he has established an impressive record of creating innovative local content, products and services that drive local viewership growth, while further enhancing audience engagement through our on-air and digital platforms. Andy is an exceptional addition to the Nexstar senior management team and we look forward to his contributions in his new role as we continue to elevate and expand the programming, products and services we provide to local communities and advertisers.”

I look forward to working with Blake, other corporate personnel and the exceptional group of General Managers, News Directors and creative services teams in our Midwest markets to enhance our broadcast and digital local content offerings, while developing new revenue-generating strategies and building upon our already impressive record of client service excellence across our multi-distribution marketing solutions platform.”
