Accomplished Media Industry Executive with 35 Years of Station and News Management Experience to Lead KDVR-TV, KWGN-TV and Related Websites and Mobile Applications

IRVING, TX and DENVER, CO – Nexstar Broadcasting Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST), announced today that it has promoted Byron Grandy to Vice President and General Manager of its broadcast and digital operations in Denver, CO (DMA #17), overseeing KDVR-TV (FOX), KWGN-TV (CW), and their related websites and mobile applications. Mr. Grandy will begin his new duties immediately and report to Ron Romines, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for Nexstar Broadcasting.

Mr. Grandy brings over three decades of broadcast experience in various leadership roles to his new position, serving most recently as Vice President and General Manager of Nexstar’s broadcast and digital operations in Raleigh, NC (WNCN-TV (CBS) and CBS17.com) since February 2017.

During his tenure with Nexstar Broadcasting in Raleigh, Mr. Grandy and his team launched a major rebranding campaign at the station, transitioning WNCN-TV to “CBS17 Local News That Matters,” delivering award-winning journalism, increased ratings and record revenue results.  Through his leadership, WNCN-TV expanded its local news by three hours per week, adding 30 minutes each to the station’s weekday noon and Saturday evening newscasts.  He also created and developed a number of locally-produced programs for WNCN-TV including, “Eye on the Storm,” a multi-platform weekly weather show hosted in Raleigh airing during hurricane season, and “Sunday Overtime,” a sports highlight show focused on professional and college sports.  Mr. Grandy also launched “Chase for the Championship,” a digital-only program featuring ACC basketball with enhanced coverage of locally-based ACC teams. The show is produced in Raleigh and streams live online in more than 20 Nexstar markets.  Finally, Mr. Gandy also led the development of multiple community engagement projects and results-oriented marketing efforts for a variety of local organizations and advertising partners.

Mr. Grandy is intimately familiar with the Denver area, having served as Vice-President and General Manager at KMGH-TV (ABC) from 2008 to 2014, and as the station’s News Director from 2000-2008. In addition to overseeing KMGH-TV, Mr. Grandy helped launch Azteca Colorado, a Spanish-language television station serving the Denver area.  Under his leadership the station was consistently recognized for outstanding news coverage and won multiple Peabody and DuPont awards for excellence in journalism.

“Byron’s successes as a General Manager, News Director, and working journalist, coupled with his deep knowledge and understanding of the Denver market, makes him an excellent choice to lead our broadcast and digital operations at KDVR-TV and KWGN-TV,” said Ron Romines, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager for Nexstar Broadcasting.  “His leadership has produced exceptional results for us at WNCN-TV in Raleigh.  He has the knowledge and skillsets to lead teams in the creation and development of exclusive and unique local content that connects with viewers and advertisers alike.  He has grown ratings and revenue successfully throughout his career and I am greatly looking forward to working with Byron in his new role within Nexstar.”

“My 35 years in local news and station management has equipped me well to work alongside the talented and experienced team of broadcast and digital professionals at KDVR-TV and KWGN-TV,” said Mr. Grandy.  “I am excited to be joining these stations and Nexstar’s staff in Denver.  The local news dominance and legacy of service provided by both of these stations is well-known and I am grateful to Nexstar Broadcasting for giving me the opportunity to lead them.  I am looking forward to returning to Denver and the community I called home for 16 years.”

Mr. Grandy has forged deep connections to the media industry and to communities in which he has worked and lived.  He currently serves on the board of directors for the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters and previously served as chairman of the Colorado Broadcasters Association.  While in Colorado, he was a member of the board of directors for the Mile High Chapter of the American Red Cross and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Colorado.

Mr. Grandy graduated from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, Texas, with a degree in business administration.  He and his wife, Melinda, have been married for 23 years and have one son, Logan.
