Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation Donates $5,000 to the Carrie Lazarus Fund for Extraordinary Talent in Syracuse, NY

Irving, TX and Syracuse, NY (December 20, 2022) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and WSYR-TV NewsChannel 9, the Nexstar Media Inc. television station serving Syracuse, NY, and the surrounding area, today announced that the Foundation will donate $5,000 to the Central New York Community Foundation. The donation will be designated to the “Carrie Lazarus Fund for Extraordinary Talent.”

WSYR’s Carrie Lazarus established the Fund for Extraordinary Talent in 2013 to support performing arts students in Central New York who lack the financial means to further their training. The fund helps musicians, singers, and dancers who are in financial need reach their fullest potential by funding the expenses of lessons, instruments and other special opportunities.

Ms. Lazarus spent more than 30 years on the anchor desk at NewsChannel 9 before dedicating herself full time to “Carrie Lazarus Presents: Extraordinary People and Places of Central New York,” which air several times each year on WSYR-TV.

“As we celebrate 10 Years of Extraordinary Talent and the number of individuals the Fund for Extraordinary Talent has helped over the years, it is a truly special milestone,” said Bill Evans, Vice President & General Manager of WSYR-TV. “Carrie created this fund to enrich and help the many and very talented musicians, singers and dancers who would not have the means otherwise to succeed and reach their fullest artistic potential. Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar across the country is core to the company’s mission, and we are honored that the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation is making this donation in recognition of the deep relationship between WSYR-TV, Central New York Community Foundation, and the Carrie Lazarus Fund for Extraordinary Talent.”

“It has been a joy and a privilege to help young talent from Central New York pursue their dreams,” said Ms. Lazarus. “I am so grateful that our community has embraced these gifted and passionate children! NewsChannel 9 and Nexstar have been true partners in the Extraordinary Talent program.”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
