Nexstar Commemorates the 50th Anniversary of the End of the Vietnam War with Special Programs Airing on NewsNation and All of its 200 Owned and Partner Television Stations

“The Vietnam War: Flight to a New Future” and “Vietnam: A Lost Generation” Will Air on Nexstar’s Local Television Stations Across the Country

NewsNation to Debut “The Vietnam War: Flight to a New Future” on May 4 at 9 p.m. ET

IRVING, TX (April 30, 2025)—Nexstar Media Group, Inc., (NASDAQ: NXST) today announced that its owned and partner television stations have begun airing two special programs commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, highlighting stories from veterans and those impacted by the conflict.  “Vietnam: A Lost Generation” and “The Vietnam War: Flight to a New Future” will air exclusively in 116 Nexstar markets across the United States; both will continue running throughout May.  Nexstar’s national cable news network, NewsNation, will air “The Vietnam War: Flight to a New Future,” on Sunday, May 4, at 9 p.m. ET., 8 p.m. CT.

  • In “Vietnam: A Lost Generation,” KDVR-TV (Denver) Anchor/Reporter Jeremy Hubbard travels to Ho Chi Minh City with a group of Vietnam War Veterans who share their experiences and stories of resilience on the battlefield and the trauma they faced after returning home. Hubbard showcases the stories of two purple heart vets, a group of Marine Corps Veterans, and a nurse who became a doctor after the war to reminisce about the indelible impact of a war that ended 50 years ago.  Mr. Hubbard also talks with a former POW who shared a cell with Senator John McCain in the infamous “Hanoi Hilton.”
  • In “The Vietnam War: Flight to a New Future,” the focus turns to Operation Babylift, a risky and one-of-a-kind evacuation of thousands of children set in motion by President Gerald Ford at the end of the war. The children were all headed for adoption in the U.S. and other countries around the world. We hear first-hand accounts from some of the adoptees and from the pilot who was behind the controls of the first flight, which crashed-landed in a field.

This large-scale company programming effort includes personal stories, firsthand retelling of events, highlights issues still impacting Vietnam Veterans to this day, and explores the lasting legacy of the Vietnam War, including:

  • A moving conversation with a two-time Vietnam War widow and the daughter of a Vietnam veteran, who share the unique challenges their loved ones faced and the enduring impact of war on their families.
  • A candid interview with three Vietnam War nurses, reflecting on their time in the war, their experience of returning home, and their thoughts on the legacy of their service.
  • Sharing the mission of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, featuring The Wall That Heals and their powerful podcast Echoes of the Vietnam War, which preserves stories of service, sacrifice, and remembrance for future generations.
  • An in-depth journey through archival footage of the war from the tape vaults of WPIX-TV in New York, guided by a historian’s insights and the firsthand accounts of a journalist who covered the war.
  • A look at wartime letters and the Library of Congress’ effort to honor veterans by safeguarding their stories for generations to come.
  • A recent Nexstar/Emerson College poll comparing attitudes toward the Vietnam War from yesterday and today.

“Nexstar Media is extremely proud to air these in-depth special programs to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon and the end of the Vietnam War,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcast division. “This wealth of storytelling is both timely and timeless in educating the public and furthering conversations around the Vietnam War, which so many of us know through family connections and firsthand experience.”

Viewers should check their local television listings for program air dates and times in their market and download the mobile app of their local Nexstar television station for more than ten hours of extended original programming related to the war.
