Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation And KCAU-TV Donate $10,000 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland

IRVING, TX  (Sept. 17, 2020) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation announced today it will donate $10,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland, on behalf of KCAU-TV, the Nexstar Broadcasting television station serving the Sioux City, IA, area (DMA #148).  The donation will be used to help fund a variety of programs helping children realize their potential and build their future.  Each year Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland assists hundreds of young boys and girls in the region.

For more than 40 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland has operated on the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life.  The organization creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth.  Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful matches between adult volunteers and  children six to 13 years old, with the relationship continuing through high school.  KCAU-TV has a long history of supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland, working with the organization on its primary fundraising events, serving annually as a sponsor for “Bowl for Kid’s Sake” and “Tour of Homes.”  This year, due to the pandemic, these events have been cancelled or reduced in size and the needs of the organization are even more acute.

“Making an investment in Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland is an investment in the future Sioux City, and the dividends are plentiful,” said John Curry, Vice President and General Manager of KCAU-TV.  “Studies show that a child paired with a Big Brother or Big Sister is more confident, more likely to steer clear of drugs and alcohol, and better able to perform in school.  Positive adult relationships are critically important to a child’s development, making Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland extremely important in the fabric of our community.  Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar in 114 markets across the country is core to the company’s mission and we are proud to make this donation on behalf of KCAU-TV, Nexstar Media Group, and all of Nexstar’s 13,000 employees.”

“We are incredibly grateful to Nexstar Media Group and KCAU-TV,” said Kristie Arlt, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland.  “Our program is free to all families, so Big Brothers Big Sisters relies on the generosity of donations and grants.  This $10,000 gift will help us serve hundreds of children in the community by providing them with life-changing mentoring services.”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business.  The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
