Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and KSNT-TV/KTMJ-TV Donate $10,000 to the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center

IRVING, TX  (Oct. 2, 2020) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation announced today it will donate $10,000 to the “Giraffe and Friends Capital Campaign” of the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center, on behalf of KSNT-TV and KTMJ-TV, the Nexstar Inc. television stations serving Topeka and the Northeast region of Kansas.  The donation will be used to help fund the construction of a new giraffe facility and a barn for antelope and gazelles within a three-acre habitat.

KSNT-TV and KTMJ-TV have a long history of supporting the Topeka Zoo, and the television stations serve as major media partners for the organization on numerous events annually.  The construction of a new giraffe facility is part of the Zoo’s master plan; built in 1966, the current giraffe enclosure is the oldest and most outdated animal habitat within the Zoo.  The Zoo’s goal is to place its wildlife in habitats and facilities that display an animal’s unique characteristics in a way that enables them to connect with people. Meaningful connections can be made when people see a giraffe gallop by, bend down to drink, or experience a giraffe feeding experience—and strong meaningful connections can change how people think and how they make choices about the environment.
