IRVING, TX (June 27, 2020) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation announced today it will donate $25,000 to the LEAD WITH LOVE: Project Angel Food Emergency Telethon to assist with COVID-19 relief efforts in Los Angeles, CA.  The telethon will be held this Saturday, June 27th from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. PT, and be carried live by KTLA 5, Nexstar Broadcasting’s local television station serving the Los Angeles area.  The telethon will also be available via live video stream on the KTLA 5 and Project Angel Food websites.

Saturday’s telethon hopes to raise $500,000 to benefit Project Angel Food’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund.  The event will be hosted by Emmy Award-winner Eric McCormack, Tony Award-nominee Sheryl Lee Ralph, and KTLA 5 anchor Jessica Holmes.

Project Angel Food has kept its doors open throughout the coronavirus pandemic, delivering medically tailored meals to people with life-threatening illnesses who are at high risk for COVID-19. The organization has served the diverse communities of Los Angeles for 30 years and today, 73 percent of its clients are people of color who, in addition to facing serious illness, are also facing economic hardship.  In the past two months alone, Project Angel Food has gone from serving 1,600 people a day, to serving 2,000 people a day.

“KTLA 5 is proud to broadcast this important event live this Saturday evening and increase awareness of the need to support ongoing COVID-19 relief efforts and the critical work of organizations like Project Angel Food,” said Janene Drafs, Vice President and General Manager of KTLA 5.  “Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar in 114 markets across the country is core to the company’s mission and we are proud to make this donation on behalf of KTLA 5, Nexstar Media Group, and all of Nexstar’s 13,000 employees.”

“KTLA and City National Bank have been fervent partners to Project Angel Food,” said Richard Ayoub, Executive Director of Project Angel Food.  “When I called and asked if they would help us make my telethon dream come true, the answer was a resounding yes!”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business.  The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
