Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and KTVI-TV/KPLR-TV Donate $15,000 To the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis

IRVING, TX  (Aug. 14, 2020) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation announced today it will donate $15,000 to the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, on behalf of KTVI-TV FOX2 and KPLR 11, the Nexstar Broadcasting television stations serving the St. Louis, MO, area (DMA #23).  The donation will be used to further the Urban League’s efforts to assist local families struggling to meet basic needs during the coronavirus pandemic.

Shortly after the pandemic began, the Urban League launched a weekly food and toiletry give-away drive for families in need.  Throughout the campaign, FOX2 and KPLR11 have produced public service announcements, provided news coverage, and posted stories to the stations’ websites and social media channels to support these efforts.  The weekly food and toiletry give-away recently expanded into a full-fledged campaign to assist needy families throughout metropolitan St. Louis and parts of Illinois, with the Urban League distributing food, masks, and hand sanitizer to more than 44,000 families. This month, with many local schools set to re-open, the Urban League began distributing school supplies along with the food and toiletries.  The $15,000 donation from the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation will help to provide school supplies and food to more than 300 families.
“FOX2 and KPLR11 have a long-established history of working with the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis, and we are extremely proud of our association with the organization and everything it does to assist those in need,” said Kurt Krueger, Vice President and General Manager of FOX2 and KPLR11.  “This donation will mean so much to the many families in the area who have been struggling with meeting basic needs as schools re-open and children head back to the classroom.  Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar in 114 markets across the country is core to the company’s mission and we are proud to make this donation on behalf of FOX2 and KPLR11, Nexstar Media Group, and all of Nexstar’s 13,000 employees.”
Mr. Krueger is has served as a member of the board of directors for the Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis since 2019.
