Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation Donates $25,000 To WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital

Five Nexstar Television Stations Serving West Virginia Host Media-thon Fundraising Effort for Hospital

Irving, TX (March 22, 2023) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and all five of the Nexstar Media Inc. television stations serving the state of West Virginia today announced that the Foundation will donate $25,000 to WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital. The donation is part of the 2023 WVU Medicine Children’s/Nexstar “Day of Giving” Media-thon, a day-long fundraising effort, hosted by WBOY-TV (Clarksburg-Weston, WV), WOWK-TV (Charleston-Huntington, WV), WTRF-TV (Wheeling, WV-Steubenville, OH), WVNS-TV (Bluefield-Beckley, WV), and WDVM-TV (Hagerstown, MD).

WVU Medicine Children’s, part of WVU Medicine, is home to the state’s largest group of pediatric primary care physicians and specialists and provides the highest level of hospital services to the citizens of West Virginia and the surrounding region. The new WVU Medicine Children’s facility is a state-of-the-art fully integrated facility that provides specialized, high-level care in areas such as comprehensive heart, pulmonary, neuro, cancer, orthopaedical, dental, craniomaxillofacial, ENT, ophthalmology, gastrointestinal, urology, surgical, and trauma.

During the course of the media-thon, all five Nexstar stations dedicate the entire day of television, web, and social media promotion to fundraising efforts on behalf of the hospital. Last year’s media-thon raised $2.9 million dollars to support the new 150-bed, nine-story WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.

“WVU Medicine Children’s is an exceptional example of providing the best healthcare to children and families not only in West Virginia but throughout the entire region,” said Jim Dodrill, Vice President and General Manager of WBOY-TV. “Our stations in and around West Virginia and all Nexstar Media takes great pride in supporting a place where miracles happen on a daily basis.”

“The support from our partners at Nexstar Media is crucial to helping our families and patients that need it most,” said Marisa Sayre, Executive Director of Marketing, Communications, and Development for WVU Medicine Children’s. “The generosity of the viewers at home tuning in to make their pledges amazes us every year at WVU Medicine Children’s.”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
