Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation, KNWA-TV, KFTA-TV, and KXNW-TV Donate $5,000 to the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank

IRVING, TX (Oct. 25, 2021) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation announced today it has donated $5,000 to the Northwest Arkansas (NWA) Food Bank, on behalf of KNWA-TV, KFTA-TV, and KXNW-TV, the Nexstar Media Inc. television stations serving Fayetteville, Arkansas, and the northwest region of the state. The NWA Food Bank is a non-profit organization dedicated to making sure children, families and communities across Northwest Arkansas don’t face hunger.

The NWA Food Bank works to distribute food to those who are food insecure in the community, while forming strong relationships with business, other non-profit organizations, mobile pantries, and school pantries. The NWA Food Bank currently has more than 135 partner agencies ranging from food pantries, soup kitchens shelters and more. In 2020, the NWA Food Bank distributed more than 15.5 million pounds of food to those in need throughout the area. KNWA-TV, KFTA-TV and KXNW-TV have been long-time partners of the food bank and the stations’ employees regularly volunteer their time, effort and fundraising expertise to the organization.

“This is going to make a huge difference,” said Kent Eikenberry, President and CEO of the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank. “Typically, we’re able to provide up to eight meals for every dollar in donations, so this will provide 40,000 meals. This time of the year, the help we provide is extremely important—people struggle during the holidays. In our four-county area of Northwest Arkansas there are an estimated 80,000 individuals who are food insecure.”

Commenting on the donation, Lisa Kelsey, Vice President and General Manager of KNWA-TV, KFTA-TV, and KXNW-TV said, “The NWA Food Bank and the work it does to combat hunger and food insecurity in our area is vitally important. The organization has cancelled its primary fundraiser for the last two years due to the pandemic, so we are extremely pleased to be able to step in and help them now. Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar across the country is core to the company’s mission, and we are proud to make this donation on behalf of KNWA-TV, KFTA-TV, KXNW-TV, Nexstar Media Group, and all of the company’s 13,000 employees.”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
