WGN Radio’s Mary Sandberg Boyle Named General Manager of the Year in Radio Ink’s 34th Annual Radio Wayne Awards
Chicago, IL – WGN Radio Vice President and General Manager Mary Sandberg Boyle was officially named General Manager of the Year (Markets 1–20) at Radio Ink’s 34th Annual Radio Wayne Awards. Presented on Wednesday, October 21 at the NAB Show New York, the Radio Wayne Awards are the broadcast industry’s longest-running and most prestigious tribute to outstanding radio management, sales, and marketing leadership.
As the first female Vice President and General Manager in WGN Radio history, Boyle emerged from hundreds of nominees nationwide and five major-market finalists to take home the top honor. Established to recognize elite talent in broadcasting, the Radio Wayne Awards celebrate the nation’s top radio professionals who embody excellence, drive revenue, and strengthen community service.
In addition to winning General Manager of the Year at the 34th Annual Radio Wayne Awards, Boyle has been recognized on Radio Ink’s Most Influential Women in Radio list for five consecutive years (2021–2026) and was honored as one of Radio Ink’s Best Managers in Radio in 2024, 2025 and 2026
Leading the flagship station of the Chicago Blackhawks and Northwestern Wildcats, Boyle has played a pivotal role in shaping WGN Radio’s culture and operational success since joining in 2015. She spearheaded the launch of the weekday morning business program The Opening Bell in 2016 and served in key leadership positions including Executive Producer, Contributor, and Director of News and Operations. In September 2019, she was named Acting General Manager before being officially promoted to Vice President and General Manager in 2020.
Boyle’s distinguished career spans more than 25 years in Chicago radio, having previously served as Executive Producer for The Steve Dahl Show and the WBBM 96.3-FM Morning Show. A Chicagoland native and graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, Boyle currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Broadcasters Association and the Better Business Bureau of Greater Chicago and is an active member of The Economic Club of Chicago.
