WGN Radio’s Sylvia Snowden receives Peter Lisagor Award
Sylvia was awarded for “Best Investigative Reporting” at the 49th annual awards
CHICAGO (May 12, 2026) – WGN Radio announced its news anchor Sylvia Snowden received a “Best Investigative Reporting” Peter Lisagor Award from the Chicago Headline Club at an awards ceremony held Friday.
Snowden’s award-winning investigation centered on a high-profile TikTok personality and party promoter who organized a massive West Side gathering despite explicit police warnings regarding potential violence. The event, which drew nearly 1,000 attendees, was followed by three separate shootings that left two people dead. Sylvia’s reporting revealed the promoter was a Chicago Public Schools employee; her continued coverage tracked his initial suspension with pay and his eventual return to the classroom following a district investigation.
Sylvia Snowden is Chicago’s Very Own. She was born and raised in Chicago and is a proud graduate of Morgan Park High School. Sylvia Snowden has been a news anchor with WGN Radio since November 2023, covering essential news across Chicago and the suburbs. A leader in the journalism community, she is a board member for the National Association of Black Journalists Chicago and the Journalism and Women’s Symposium.
