Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation Donates $10,000 to the “Road to Recovery Telethon” to Assist with Tornado Cleanup and Recovery Efforts in Terre Haute, IN

All Day Telethon Raised More Than $64,000 To Help Local Communities

Contribution Will Go Towards Wabash Valley Community Foundation

Irving, TX and Terre Haute, IN (April 13, 2023) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation today announced that the Foundation has donated $10,000 to “The Road to Recovery Telethon” to assist with the cleanup and recovery efforts in Crawford County, IL, and Sullivan County, IN, following a deadly EF-3 tornado on Friday, March 31.

WTWO-TV, the Nexstar Media Inc. television station serving Terre Haute, IN, and the surrounding area, held the telethon on Wednesday, April 12, to help raise funds for both communities. Yesterday’s telethon raised a total of $64,394.

The Foundation’s contribution will go to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation which launched an emergency and disaster relief fund to help support recovery and relief efforts and help prioritize immediate and long-term recovery and relief efforts for those impacted by the storms.

WTWO-TV Vice President and General Manager Tim Sanders, who was among station staff racing across the region to cover the tornado damage the night it touched down, said it was important to continue helping the communities the station serves beyond the initial reporting phase.

“We said from the beginning, when our Chief Meteorologist Jesse Walker came on air as the storm began moving through, that we will be there to the end,” Mr. Sanders said. “We’ve been there the whole way and we won’t stop. This $10,000 donation from the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation is one more way we are keeping our word and demonstrating our commitment to the communities we serve. . And I want everyone to know that we will continue telling your stories and helping in any way needed.”

“The community is doing everything we can to get this road to recovery going strong,” said Crawford County Treasurer Rikki Callaway. “We appreciate all the support, now and in the future. Crawford County is taking the steps to begin rebuilding. It’ll take some time, but we are so grateful for WTWO-TV and all the efforts from everyone involved. We are stronger together.”

“We’ve been preaching our motto ‘take time to care’ for over a decade, and so many organizations, individuals and leaders have come together and are truly doing just that – taking time to care for those affected,” said Sullivan’s Mayor, Clint Lamb. “We are grateful to WTWO-TV for hosting a great event and donating to our long-term recovery efforts. Thank you to all those who participated!”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
