Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation Donates $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana

IRVING, TX (Feb. 8, 2022) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and WANE-TV, the Nexstar Media Inc. television station serving Fort Wayne, Indiana, and the surrounding area, announced today that the Foundation will donate $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana (BBBSNEI) in celebration of the organization’s 50-year anniversary.

For more than 100 years, the national organization of Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated under the belief that every child inherently has the ability to succeed and thrive in life. The nation’s largest donor-supported and volunteer-supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers, the “Bigs,” and youth, the “Littles”—ages six through 22, in communities across the country. The organization develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people – particularly youth from disadvantaged socioeconomic demographics. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana was founded in 1972 and has programs operating in 12 counties throughout Northeast Indiana and Southern Michigan.

“We are blessed to have partners like WANE-TV and the Nexstar Charitable Foundation,” said Josette Rider, Chief Executive Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana. “As a donor and volunteer driven organization, BBBSNEI relies heavily on the community for funding and volunteers. Every donation we receive benefits local youth, enabling us to create new matches for the children on the waiting list and provide professional case management to support our existing matches. WANE-TV has proven to provide ‘local coverage we can count on,’ by sharing the mission, providing funding and producing some amazing volunteers, like Alyssa Ivanson, who is a phenomenal Big Sister to her Little Sister Jordan. 2022 marks our 50th Anniversary and having partners who believe in our mission makes a tremendous difference in the number of kids we’re able to serve, and we are forever grateful. With this donation we look to create 390 new matches this year alone.”

Commenting on the donation, Tom Antisdel, Vice President and General Manager of WANE-TV said, “Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana does amazing work and provides much needed guidance to the youngsters it serves. For 50 years, this organization has made a real difference in the community and helped propel thousands of boys and girls to meaningful and successful lives—we are very proud of our relationship with Big Brothers Big Sisters. Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar across the country is core to the company’s mission and to WANE-TV, and we are honored that the Nexstar Media Foundation will make this donation in recognition of the deep relationship between WANE-TV, its employees, and BBBSNEI.”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
