(Nasdaq: NXST) announced today that Richard Doutre’Jones has been appointed Vice President / General Manager of KTVX-TV (ABC) and KUCW-TV (CW) serving the Salt Lake City, Utah DMA. Mr. Doutre’Jones will have overall responsibility of the station and digital e-Media operations for KTVX and KUCW including news production, sales, and community relations. Mr. Doutre’Jones’ appointment is effective immediately and he will report to Brian Jones, Co-Chief Operating Officer of Nexstar Broadcasting.
Mr. Doutre’Jones’ broadcasting career has extended across all facets of the industry including local and national sales, station operations, programming, and management positions. In 1983, he began his 18 year tenure at KBHK-TV/UPN44 (currently KBCW/CW-CBS) in San Francisco, CA, as a National and Local Sales Manager. After increasing local and national sales every year under his leadership, Mr. Doutre’Jones was promoted to General Sales Manager and Station Manager of KBHK where he implemented multi-channel marketing strategies, launched the station’s website, and consistently exceeded economic goals resulting in increased revenues.
In 2001, he was brought to San Diego where he was tasked with creating a Joint Market Partnership Agreement (JMPA) that would combine Grupo Televisa-owned XETV-TV/FOX6 (currently XETV-TV/CW) and Entravision Communications-owned XHUPN-TV/UPN13 (currently XDTV-TV/MyNetworkTV) into Bay City Television, Inc. As the stations’ VP and General Manager, he established new business development initiatives, created unique local programming, and developed Emmy-award winning news operations. Under his leadership, both stations went from negative cash flow operations to positive, achieving an impressive turnaround of more than $10 million in EBITDA in less than one year. Most recently, Mr. Doutre’Jones served as the Vice President of Jones Broadcast Group while also operating RDJ Global, both firms provide consulting and M&A advisory services to broadcast, media, and technology companies as well as financial institutions.
Commenting on the appointment, Brian Jones stated, “Richard has an impressive industry background with extensive experience in station management, local news production and programming, and strategic planning and positioning across multiple media platforms. In addition to leading teams that delivered effective marketing solutions for local and national advertisers, he has a proven long-term record of creating new revenue-generating opportunities by implementing innovative programming strategies and unique web/mobile concepts. With his depth of local broadcasting expertise, strong client relationships, and dedication to the local Salt Lake community, we are confident that Richard is the ideal person to lead the television and e-media operations of KTVX and KUCW.”
Commenting on his new role, Richard Doutre’Jones stated, "I have deep ties to the Salt Lake City area and the local communities throughout Utah, where many immediate and extended family members, as well as close business and personal friends reside. Utah is where I met my wife Shelli, in Journalism 201 at BYU, and it is where my two oldest children attended college. Our next son will return to BYU in August at the completion of his LDS mission this summer, and we hope our youngest son will also attend college in Utah when he graduates from high school next year. I am thrilled to be working with the exceptional teams at KTVX and KUCW and will utilize the management experience and relationships built over my career to generate results. Nexstar’s strong commitment to the local communities it serves is widely recognized throughout the industry and I look forward to working with the advertisers and local community in pursuit of superior marketing solutions and across multi-distribution platforms to build continued viewership growth.”
Mr. Doutre’Jones received a full four-year scholarship to Brigham Young University to play NCAA football for the Cougars and earned his B.A. in Communications. After completing a graduate school internship at Colombia University, he dedicated his career to broadcasting, which now spans over three decades. Mr. Doutre’Jones and his wife Shelli are members of the LDS Church. They have three sons, one who is married, and one daughter, who is also married, and he and Shelli have three grandsons.
Mr. Doutre’Jones has been a guest lecturer at Brigham Young University’s MBA Society, San Francisco State University, and University of San Diego.
