Nexstar Broadcasting Group purchased WJMN-TV a CBS affiliate, from Liberty Media Corporation on June 30, 2011. Located in the Marquette-DMA, WJMN has had a place in the Michigan’s Upper Peninsula’s history since 1969. Originally launched as an NBC affiliate station, WJMN quickly brought viewers a second programming choice to the Upper Peninsula. WJMN has always been a leader in new technology in the Marquette market. Topping the list of many “firsts” are the accomplishments of being the first to broadcast broadcasting digitally, broadcasting in 16:9 high definition programming – both network and syndicated, to being able to produce and air 16:9 high definition advertising commercials. In 2012, WJMN launched an expansion plan that included the opening of a new business office in Marquette and creation of local jobs. A substantial change in daily programming also lead to new viewing opportunities and an increase in audience share.
