KFOR
Station Profile
Signing on as Oklahoma’s first television station, KFOR has a long rich history of broadcasting excellence. KFOR’s commitment to news and weather is evident as the station has been awarded three national Emmys and dozens of regional Emmys. Since 1995 alone, the station has been awarded 36 golden statues, and numerous other journalistic and design awards.
KFOR has always been a pioneer in the broadcast industry. In 1954, KFOR (WKY) was the first station in the country to issue a tornado warning, going against government regulations, to save lives in the viewing area. KFOR was the first local station in the country to broadcast in color. It was the first to introduce color Doppler weather radar and, in the 1990s, was the first station to broadcast pictures and video of severe weather via cell phones.
KFOR is a news leader and covering stories that matter to Oklahomans. The station’s tagline “Looking Our For You” is illustrated in news franchises like In Your Corner, Pay it 4Ward, A Place to Call Home, Is This A Great State Or What?, and Kids with Courage. In Oklahoma, KFOR produces the only local political show Flash Point, which has been on the air for more than a quarter of a century.
In 2017, KFOR moved into a brand new, state-of-the-art television station. The open concept building was built with safety and technology as priorities. The windows are 200 mph projectile resistant and the structure is rated to withstand an EF3/EF4 tornado, which is an absolute necessity in Oklahoma.
KFOR is a community leader and plays important roles in more than 26 annual events, including the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon, Weather School, Fans 4 Oklahoma, National Weather Service Festival, Warmth 4 Winter Coat Drive, Salvation Army Angel Tree, Red Kettle Drives and many more.
