Nexstar Broadcasting Group purchased WATE-TV, an ABC affiliate, from Media General in 2016. WATE-TV is Knoxville’s first television station signing on October 1, 1953. WATE is the “On Your Side” station, focusing on news coverage that makes East Tennessee a better, safer place to live. WATE is an award-winning news organization, garnering regional and national awards for news excellence, including 2 national Edwards R. Murrow awards. The station is committed to making an investment in the community through partnerships with leading community organizations and the On Your Side Day of Service. WATE’s syndicated programming includes Live with Kelly, Judge Judy, Family Feud, Wendy Williams, and Rachael Ray. Greystone Mansion, built in 1885 and on the National Register of Historic Places, has been home to the station since 1965, making WATE part of East Tennessee history in more ways than one.
