Station Profile
Nexstar acquired WCFN in conjunction with its acquisition of WCIA. WCFN’s broadcast location is near Springfield, the state capital of Illinois. The FCC granted duopoly status for WCFN, and in April of 2002, and in August 2011 changed call letters to WCIX. The station began broadcasting as a UPN TV affiliate in both digital and analog formats and is now a myNetwork affiliate. Operating WCIX as a stand-alone station has allowed the station to benefit from substantial operational efficiencies. “In cooperation with WCIA, the station added a 7PM local newscast and a two hour live Morning Show 7AM-9AM of news, information and entertainment to better serve the community and generate additional revenue. The station’s syndicated programming is diversified and efficient with popular shows like Everybody hates Chris and court shows of People’s Court, Judge Mathis, and We The People. WCIX also carries a strong line up of classic television programs with Andy Griffith, Matlock, Perry Mason and Little House on the Prairie. The station is also making a name for itself with sports carrying Chicago Bulls, Chicago Cubs, White Sox, Indianapolis Colts, IHSA Championship Football and Championship Basketball.
