Since signing on the air on October 17, 1965 (as WBMG) the station has had a longstanding commitment to serving the viewers in the Birmingham area. In the present day that commitment continues to grow through the station’s many newscasts and specials aimed at bringing the community together to discuss issues and finding solutions. WIAT’s syndicated programming includes Dr. Phil, Wendy, Jeopardy and Entertainment Tonight.

Birmingham, AL is in the 46th largest DMA in the United States, with a population of approximately 1,673,530 and 756,050 television households, as reported by Nielsen Media.

Birmingham is a growing community that added 3500 jobs in 2015 and saw more than $1.1 billion in capital investment that year as well (according to the Birmingham Business Alliance.) While Birmingham was once solely dependent on the iron and steel industry, the community now has a booming medical industry and also boasts two auto manufacturing plants: Honda and Mercedes Benz.
