Nexstar Broadcasting Group purchased WSYR-TV, an ABC affiliate, from Newport Television on December 1, 2012. Throughout its 50-year history, WSYR-TV NewsChannel 9 has always been strongly committed to the communities it serves. WSYR-TV produces the top rated local news programming in the Syracuse market. Working together for more than 25 years the station’s main news anchors, Carrie Lazarus and Rod Wood, are one of the longest running anchor teams in the country. The station has always been a leader in new technology in the market. WSYR-TV was the first to broadcast digitally , the first to broadcast local news in high definition and the only station with live local Doppler. WSYR-TV also serves the community through extensive locally produced programming including the daily infotainment show “Bridge Street”, the most extensive coverage of Syracuse University Athletics with “Rewind & Reload” and the live broadcast of the annual Syracuse St. Patricks Parade in high definition. WSYR-TV’s syndicated programming includes Katie Couric, Rachael Ray Millionaire, Dr. Oz and Entertainment Tonight and Insider.
