In 2001, Nexstar acquired WCIA, a CBS affiliate located in Champaign. WCIA had been operated by Nexstar under a time brokerage agreement since July of 1999. WCIA has traditionally dominated area viewing for Central Illinois. WCIA produces more local programming than any station in the market with 9 hours of news and lifestyle programming each weekday and an additional 3 and 1/2 hours on the weekends. WCIA is also the official Broadcast partner of the University of Illinois Fighting Illini.
